Yes. Acupuncture is a regulated health profession and a controlled act in Ontario.
Regulated healthcare professionals such as Registered Massage Therapists, Nurses, Chiropractors, Physiotherapists, and Medical Doctors may incorporate acupuncture into their scope of practice, provided they have completed appropriate training and are authorized to do so by their regulatory college.
No. Short-term acupuncture training programs provide foundational education and skill development but do not qualify an individual to practice independently as a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Acupuncturist.
The program includes 10 modules and all notes on Medical Acupuncture, blending theory for musculoskeletal conditions/sports injuries with practical, hands-on training. One book to purchase is recommended. Materials are provided and after the first month, but we do recommend students get their own kit.
Both approaches use needles, but the philosophy and application differ significantly, with Medical Acupuncture being condition-specific and TCM acupuncture being both condition specific and system-oriented.
Upon successful completion, healthcare professionals are qualified to integrate acupuncture into their practice, enhancing their treatment options for patient care. Some practitioners may need to contact their respective regulatory boards, such as the CMTO. Please note that obtaining professional liability insurance is compulsory before adding acupuncture services to your practice.

All programs are supervised during the In-Class Practicums, where safety and clean needle techniques, depth/angle safety, hands-on practice and treating a wide range of conditions enable practitioners to feel comfortable performing their medical acupuncture in a clinical setting.

Withdrawal Notice: A full refund of tuition (minus a non-refundable registration/administrative fee) is typically granted if a written notice of withdrawal is received at least 14 days before the first dayof class.
Prorated Refunds: If a student withdraws after classes have commenced, refunds are usually prorated based on the number of weeks completed, provided the withdrawal occurs within the first three weeksof the program’s duration. Otherwise, there is no refund., however the tuition can be deferred to a future term within the next 3-6 months.
Non-Refundable Items: Application/Registration fees are non-refundable once issued or accessed.
Extenuating Circumstances: For medical or personal emergencies, IMAI may offer the option to defer enrollment to a future term or provide a credit toward upcoming seminars and certifications with a doctor’s note

The Medical Neuro-Acupuncture module focuses on treating MSK and neurological conditions using acupuncture techniques grounded in modern evidence-based acupuncture and neuroscience. Our TCM Acupuncture track offers a deep dive into Chinese diagnostic methods and acupuncture techniques. Over the course of 2.5 to 3 years, you will gain hands-on experience in integrating traditional TCM Theory, rooted in ancient holistic Chinese Medicine practices based on the concept of balancing the body’s energy, or “Qi.” Practitioners use pulse diagnosis, tongue examination, and an understanding of meridians and acupuncture points to address broader physical, emotional, and spiritual health concerns. Pain relief is a major condition TCM treats – meaning musculoskeletal challenges are included in TCM, as channel obstructions. TCM views the body as an interconnected system, focusing on restoring harmony. with contemporary medical practices, enhancing your ability to treat diverse patient populations.

PAYMENT POLICY – Tuition payment must be made before the start of class or with payment options at the designated monthly date. 90% Refund of total paid within one week of the start date and if no notes are received, 50% refund once initial notes are received up to 2 weeks of the program commencement. No refund after 3 weeks into the Program. Refunds are made via e-transfer. For Foreign Students and Non-accredited practitioners (Ontario), the same payment policy is applicable except for the Tuition Fees. Please contact us for the price. Our licensed Professors and Instructors have been teaching Medical Acupuncture to healthcare professionals worldwide for more than fifteen years and belong to licensed Boards.
What really makes our program most comprehensive and unique is our teaching methods and the integration of East and West techniques. This includes the Channel theory, Dry Needling, basic Auricular and Cupping. All use acupuncture but the technique and philosophy behind each is different. Channel theory includes body acupuncture points on the meridians. All techniques are practiced on a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions and other.
This is a great program for Health Practitioners who want to add a comprehensive modality to their toolbox. Our Health Practitioner graduates have been RMT’s, Chiropractors, Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, Nurses and Doctors – all successfully integrating the different acupuncture styles and techniques of either Medical or Medical Acupuncture into their practice.
